Farscape is a sci fi show with a difference. It looks at life in far away space from a human's perspective. It places the central character into a chaotic and hostile environment and gives him a load of interpersonal issues to deal with on top.

It was the idea of Rockne S O'Bannon, Brian Henson and David Kemper and was originally to be called 'Space Chase'. Filming took place in Australia hence many of the characters have the distinct accent (which I think adds to the shows greatness). As it's a Jim Henson production, puppets feature highly and two of the main characters, Rygel and Pilot are actually puppets.

Farscape ran for 4 seasons before being cut abruptly by the American Sci Fi channel in 2002. This resulted in the show having to end on the Season 4 cliffhanger which, if you've seen it was just unbelievable. The fans - Scapers - went into action with almost military precision and launched a campaign to bring the show back. A mini-series returned in 2004 which dealt with some of the unfinished business, but there's still more to be told.

Farscape is a show in which the story unfolds over the whole four seasons. It can be complex and challenging to watch with some very gripping and tearjerker story lines, as well as some hilarious ones. If you've never watched, rent the DVDs or watch the re-runs. I recommend you watch in sequence from the very first episode of season one. You will be hooked :)
